Job Description

Position Title : Lighting Services Engineer

Location : Anniston, AL 36201

Duration : 36 months + extension

The successful candidate must live within or near APC's Eastern Division - ideally within the geographic triangle of Anniston, Sylacauga, and Roanoke, AL , or within 1 hour of either Sylacauga or Roanoke . This role involves 3 4 days per week of field checking , so proximity is essential.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lighting Services Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining lighting systems across residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The initial focus will be on new residential projects , with potential to expand into commercial and industrial projects in the future. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with creative design skills and a commitment to energy-efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lighting Design: Collaborate with clients, architects, and project teams to design lighting systems that balance aesthetics, functionality, and energy efficiency.
  • Lighting Calculations & Simulations: Use industry tools to determine fixtures, luminance levels, and layouts for different environments.
  • Energy Efficiency: Incorporate LED technology, daylight harvesting, smart controls, and sustainable practices to reduce energy consumption.
  • Technical Drawings & Documentation: Develop detailed lighting plans, technical drawings, specifications, and as-built records.
  • Product Selection: Recommend and source lighting fixtures, controls, and accessories that align with project requirements and budgets.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs meet codes and standards (IESNA, ASHRAE, energy codes, and safety regulations).
  • Site Visits: Assess existing lighting conditions, perform troubleshooting, and gather data for retrofits or new designs.
  • Budgeting & Cost Estimation: Prepare and manage lighting budgets and monitor project costs.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects from concept through installation, coordinating with contractors, electricians, and other stakeholders.
  • Quality Control & Commissioning: Inspect installations, ensure systems meet design specifications, and oversee commissioning.
  • Client Communication: Provide regular updates, address client concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Technology Integration: Explore and implement smart lighting and automation technologies to improve efficiency and user experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field . Lighting design certifications (e.g., LC Lighting Certified ) preferred.
  • Experience: Proven background in lighting design/engineering (consulting, architectural, or related industry experience preferred).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of lighting principles, photometry, and modern lighting technologies.
    • Familiarity with design software such as AGi32, Dialux , and AutoCAD .
    • Knowledge of lighting codes, standards, and energy regulations (ASHRAE, IESNA, etc.). Soft Skills:
      • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
      • Strong creativity and attention to detail.
      • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
      • Collaborative mindset for working with clients, architects, and contractors.
