Cost Accountant | Kalamazoo, MI

Salary Range: $68,000 - $102,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead.
• Analyze manufacturing variances (e.g., material usage, labor efficiency, overhead spending) and report findings.
• Perform accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Prepare detailed cost reports, profitability analysis, and margin analysis for products and production lines.
• Assist in the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, focusing on cost components.
• Identify and recommend cost reduction opportunities and process improvements within manufacturing operations.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost of goods sold.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of progressive cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, GAAP, and inventory valuation methods.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles or process improvement methodologies.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) or advanced SQL for data analysis.
• Previous involvement in ERP system implementations or upgrades.
• Familiarity with project costing or job order costing in a complex manufacturing environment.
